Brooklyn Italians Youth Product Signs for D1 Powerhouse
BROOKLYN, NY - We are delighted to announce that one of our youth team graduates, Giuseppe Barone, has signed for NCAA Division 1 powerhouse LIU Brooklyn.
Barone was schooled at the Brooklyn Italians since the age of 4, and was included in five youth national team camps for the USA. A graduate of Xaverian High School in Bay Ridge, he was also invited to train with the professional academies of Empoli, Catania, Palermo and Frosinone Italy.
Director of Coaching Dominic Casciato had this to say of Barone's signing: "Giuseppe is a really talented young player, and I think that LIU Brooklyn is the ideal environment for him to develop further. I'm sure he will make a big impact on the team there from day one. It's a great program with great leadership in the form of head coach TJ Kostecky, and they've got some excellent players."
"There's a good collection of players playing NCAA Division 1 soccer that have come through our club recently - we've got two at St. John's, a few at St. Francis, one at FDU, and now Giuseppe at LIU Brooklyn. I think that's a testament to the work that's being done here at Brooklyn Italians by our coaches, and the strong relationships we've developed with local college coaches to give our players a clear pathway to high level college soccer. We are looking forward to helping more of our players get into top local schools in the years to come."
The Blackbirds are a collegiate soccer program on the rise as both reigning regular season and playoff champions of the NEC conference, having swept both titles in the 2015 season.
