Partnership with The Orphaned Starfish Foundation
BROOKLYN, NY - Brooklyn Italians Youth Soccer Club are delighted to announce a partnership with The Orphaned Starfish Foundation, a charity dedicated to providing vocational educational opportunities to over 10,000 children in 25 countries across the world.
Orphaned Starfish was founded in 2001 by Andy Stein, who wanted to help orphans, victims of abuse, and at risk youth across the world break out of the cycle of poverty they are born into by providing them with valuable access to high quality education, including computer and foreign language skills training.
On a recent visit to Brazil, Director of Coaching Dominic Casciato was able to meet with two of the Orphaned Starfish Project leaders in Rio De Janeiro.
“After meeting with Andy and seeing his passion for Orphaned Starfish, we were keen to get involved and help in any way that we could. A parent of one of our Brooklyn Italians’ players, Peter Ciaccia, who has been involved with Andy from the beginning and sits on its Board, has been instrumental in introducing our two organizations and assisted with providing a special start to our first visit where we handed out shoes to every child at this particular orphanage. Some of the children we met had never owned a pair of shoes before, so it was a really moving experience that had a deep impact on us.”
“During the trip to the two projects, we were able to see first hand the fantastic work that Orphaned Starfish does, and what a positive role they play in the children’s lives. We will continue to support Orphaned Starfish in their endeavors, and look forward to further ways in which we can collaborate in the near future.”
