Director of Coaching Announcement
BROOKLYN, NY - The Board of Directors at the Brooklyn Italians Soccer Club are delighted to announce Antonio Superbia will serve as the Director of Coaching for the club. Superbia is a lifelong Brooklyn Italians Soccer Club member who's playing career began in 1986 and coaching career in 2000 at Brooklyn College.
The Brazilian-American is a physical education teacher. He holds a Master's of Science in Education from Brooklyn College. Superbia possesses an extensive background in coaching education and has earned numerous licenses and diplomas from United Soccer Coaches and the U.S. Soccer Federation educational programs.
Superbia served as the head coach of the Brooklyn College Men's Soccer Team from 2000 through the 2006 NCAA soccer seasons while simultaneously coaching at the Manhattan Soccer Club during that period. In 2007, Superbia joined our soccer grassroots organizational program as a coach. He is also a coach evaluator for United Soccer Coaches.
Superbia played professionally in Brazil w/ Inter de Bebedouro in 1986, 1988, and with Clube Atletico Juventus in 1987 at the U19's São Paulo State championship. In 1990, he was awarded an athletic scholarship to play for the Brooklyn College Div I soccer team, earning men's soccer M.V.P. honors during his freshman year. A selection to the All-New York State Team followed. Additionally, Superbia was a steady member of the Brooklyn Italians Soccer Club's teams during a US Open Cup Championship period. He played for the club from 1989 through 1994.
Along with his teammates, Superbia helped the organization win NESSL titles in 1989, 1990, 1992, and 1993. He led the league in goal-scoring during the 1990 season. He was also a finalist of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup in 1990 and National Champions in 1991. The Brooklyn Italians team participated in the CONCACAF Champions league during that year.
With the rebirth of professional soccer in the United States, Superbia played with the New Jersey Dragons during the 1995 USISL professional league. He participated in the" National Combines" and was one of the original players to be drafted by the New England Revolution during Major League Soccer 1996 Inaugural Season.
As the Director of Coaching, Superbia will be responsible for the entire club's curriculum and both coach and player development.
