BROOKLYN, NY - On the warmest day of the year, the Brooklyn Italians were able to return to their winning ways, defeating Seacoast United Phantoms 1-0, bringing their unbeaten run to 5!

Like always, the Italians started lively and finally were rewarded with an early goal. In the 4th minute the Boys in Blue were awarded a dangerous free-kick deep in Seacoast’s half. Knowing they would have an advantage on set-pieces, Fabian Lifka stepped up and sent a beautiful ball, which Simen Olafsen was able to get his head on. His header went cross-bar, down, and the lines-judge communicated with the head official that it was a goal. The goal was the first for Olafsen this year and settled down the Italians.

With the early tally, the Italians continued to control the match. With Christian Flath unavailable because of suspension, Joe Swenson replaced the German nicely and was able to break-up any counter attacks that Seacoast threw at the Italians. Even though the Italians controlled the affair, the teams went into half-time with the same scoreline, 1-0.

With the teams returning, both were looking to add to their cause. The Italians looked to build on their lead, while Seacoast looked to equalize and go for a winner. Like much of the first half, when Brooklyn had the ball they were patient, but unable to capitalize.

Although frustrated by the chances going astray, the Italians were able to hold on for the 3 points, winning the match from the early goal from Olafsen. With the 3 points, the Italians moved to 13 from 5 matches, and currently tied atop the Atlantic Blue division with Elm City and New York Cosmos B.

The next match for the Boys in Blue will be next Saturday, June 17th, at 7pm against Kingston Stockade at LIU Brooklyn Sports Complex. With the weather warm and beautiful soccer being played, we expect to see you there supporting the boys against Kingston, the team atop the Atlantic White division. Make sure to get there early to guarantee yourself a seat as you cheer on the heart of Brooklyn!
