Game Recap: Brooklyn Italians vs. NYAC
On a beautiful night in Queens, the Brooklyn Italians started their NPSL campaign strongly with a 4-1 victory over New York Athletic Club (NYAC).
Creating chances early, the Italians could not capitalize despite having a ball cleared off the line and hitting the woodwork within the first 20 minutes. As the first half continued, the pace of the game settled and the teams went into the locker room 0-0 at half.
As the second half began, both teams were determined to break the deadlock - with the Italians drawing first blood in the 51st. A wonderfully placed through-ball from Christian Flath allowed Harry Cooksley to go 1-on-1 with the keeper, sliding the ball into the net to put the Italians up 1-0. NYAC answered quickly - winning and converting a penalty in the 66th to even the score at 1-1.
Looking to overcome the setback, the Italians quickly retook the lead in the 72nd with a goal from the former youth player, Giuseppe (Joey) Barone, to give the Italians a 2-1 lead – and they never looked back. Now in control, the Italians added two more goals (Cooksley in the 79th, Federico Curbelo in the 90th+) to seal the victory at 4-1.
The Brooklyn Italians will face the New York Cosmos B away from home on Sunday, May 21st, at 4pm at the Rocco Commisso Stadium in Manhattan. We look forward to seeing you there, supporting the boys in Blue and White!
